Varsity Baseball

Varsity baseball started out strong in their first ten games of the season. With a record of 10-0 at the beginning of May, the Warriors are a definite threat on the field. Sam Hearn, sophomore at Western, and Jack Maynard, senior, are the top pitchers for the team and great contributors for Western team.

On April 22nd, Sam Hearn gave up no earned hits, and struck out six, leading the team to a 7-1 win over Louisa. The only close game for the Warriors has been against arch rival Monticello. On April 17th, Jack Maynard struck out a total of 12 and a hit from Dylan Weiss led Sam Hearn to home for their 1-0 victory over Monticello. Other close games for the Warriors were against Powhatan and Fort Defiance where Western was able to pull away with big wins. On May 20th the team destroyed Powhatan 5-1, winning them the District title. They finish up the regular season on May 22 with a game against Fluvanna and then will continue onto post season competition which will hopefully end with a win at states.
