Nine wrestlers will be representing Western Albemarle in this weekend’s regional tournament, including all five seniors. This is a major improvement because only five wrestlers advanced for the Warriors last year. “They are much better wrestlers now than they were in the first week of November,” says Head Coach Adam Mulcahy, “We’ve greatly improved our skill and technique, and we are winning a lot more matches now.” This is evident by the fact that the Warriors went 1-4 in their first tournament of the year, and finished 4-1 in their last one. Two warriors have reached big milestones this year: Chris Miller got his 40th win of the season and Andrew Dickerson got his 100th career win.

Coming off a great performance in the Conference 29 tournament, the Warriors hope to keep the momentum heading into regionals. Coach Mulcahy is motivating his team by encouraging them to finish strong at the end of the season. “At this point, it is win or go home,” he says, “Especially for the seniors, this is their last opportunity to advance to states, so don’t hold anything back and have no regrets.”
