The Western Albemarle’s boys varsity basketball team played their last regular season game this Tuesday. The boys dominated the Orange County Hornets in a 68-40 victory. Sophomores Garrett Payne and Tommy Mangrum lead the Western boys, both scoring 17 in their strong performance.

The boys finished the season with a solid 10-4 record. The team will enter the Jefferson District tournament as the third seed behind No. 1 seed Louisa County and No. 2 seed Albemarle County.

Western plays their first game of the tournament this Friday against No. 6 seed Monticello High School. Last Friday the team Played Monticello, and won at Monticello. The boys will look to progress into the second round, where they will most likely play. a strong Albemarle High School team. Last time Western faced off against Albemarle, the game came down to a last second layup that won Albemarle the game 55-53. The team hopes to prevail through the Jefferson District tournament and travel to the state tournament.
