Field Hockey Season Recap

The field hockey team finished their season with the Jefferson District title and an appearance at states. The team consists of five conference first team members, and is coached by Milo Oakland, who won a high school coach of the year award. The team had a succession of play off games against Culpeper and Fauquier high school. They won the conference title, it was an intense game that went into a single overtime with Madison Masloff, a junior, scoring the winning goal. The next extraordinary game was against York. This was the deciding game for states, so stakes were high. York scored with 12.5 minutes left in the game, which WAHS later matched. The game went into two overtimes and a shootout. Rookie goalie Genna Repich saved every goal shot on her. Valerie Hajek and Dylan Wright scored, sealing the deal for states. The team trekked to Virginia beach in search for an elusive states title. They got to practice at the VA Beach National Training Center on Thursday, but unfortunately, they did not win their first game, forcing them to head home the same day. It’s up to next year’s varsity to take the team to victory.
