The level of competition for Singing Valentines, a beloved Western tradition, increased dramatically this year. Out of nineteen prospective groups, the field had to be narrowed to twelve or less. Tensions increased to such a degree that some teachers considered allowing all groups to perform for half the day, rather than half the groups for the whole day. This proposal was well-received by faculty, who try to be as inclusive as possible.

Students, however, felt differently. Representatives from each group were called to a vote, in which it was decided by an 11-8 margin that 7 groups would be cut, and those remaining would perform for the entirety of the day. “Quality over quantity” seemed to be the prevailing argument for the decision.

Performances from the twelve chosen groups went on sale Thursday, February 5.
