Field Hockey Starts off Strong

The WAHS varsity field hockey team started off the season on a high note with two straight wins. The first victory came against a solid Kettle Run squad. Hannah Plantz and Lily Stoke were producing plenty of offense for the Warriors with each player scoring a goal.  The Warriors also did a great job on defense shutting out Kettle Run. It was a great effort on both sides of the field and it paid off in the end with Western coming out with the win by a score of 2-0. They also defeated Powhatan High school 3-1 in a exciting game. It was the sophomores that maintained the lead for Western the entire game with Hannah Weyher, Joie Funk, and Valerie Hajek scoring goals throughout. WAHS never fell behind.

Milo Oakland, the coach of field hockey, tries to take the same approach to every game the team plays, regardless of who they are playing next. The dominant field hockey team can look back on their rigorous practices to see how they have done so well against other teams this season so far. Western is on a good pace to start out the new 2014 season and the possibilities seem limitless.
