Nathan Gets Jiggy With It

Music Fanatic Wins Battle of the Bands

Nathan Nieburg won the crowd with his electro pop music and got the win. At Battle of the Bands this year, Nathan was the only solo artist among nine total acts. He specializes in electronic music and writes and produces his own electronic house and progressive house music.

Born in Tuy Hoa, Vietnam, Nathan became interested in Japanese culture at a young age. During elementary school, Nathan came across manga – a type of Japanese comic book- that sparked his interest in Japanese culture. Manga presented a fictional story of Japan that captured his attention at an early age.

This fall, Nathan will be attending Oberlin College in Ohio to study East Asian culture, language, and history. Nathan chose Oberlin College because no schools in the eastern part of the U.S offer Vietnamese culture as a major. “When I visited Oberlin, the campus felt really nice and the people there are really diverse.” Nathan is looking forward to collaborating with students from Oberlin’s music conservatory, although he doesn’t plan to enroll in the conservatory himself. “I’m probably going to study abroad in my junior year of college in Japan,” said Nathan. Once in Japan, Nathan wants to continue to study the life of the Japanese culture.

After his years at Oberlin, Nathan is hoping to work for Yamaha instruments in the 2020 Summer Olympics. These Olympics, hosted in Japan, will be a way for Nathan to advance his knowledge of their culture even more. Nathan is also interested in possibly translating books or adding subtitles to books or movies that are in Japanese.

Whatever else Nathan adds to his resume, he will always have the distinction of having won WAHS Battle of the Bands under his belt.
