Boys Basketball Falls to Albemarle

Sadie Gupton, Staff Writer

Last night, the Western boys faced a determined squad of Patriots and lost 59-62.  The team was led by senior Jake Maynard with 18 points, including two 3-pointers that tied the game at 59 with 31 seconds left. However, these crucial baskets just weren’t enough as AHS won it in free-throws. The game last night included an astounding number of fouls, with players from both teams fouling out in the last quarter. Western and Albemarle faced off a total of four times this year, with Western winning the previous three match-ups. Although this was a tough loss for the guys, this does not end their season, only their pursuit of the Jefferson District Title. The team will return to action on Monday, as they take on Monticello in the first round of Conference 29 play. Starting with Monday night’s game, the playoffs will be single-elimination. This will be the third game between the Warriors and Mustangs, with Western proving victorious in the first two games.
