Warriors Golf Ends Season With Regional Loss
The Western Albemarle Warriors varsity golf team ended their season on Tuesday, October 8th, when they lost in the Regional tournament. They finished in sixth place, needing to finish in first or second in order to advance to states.
Western finished with a total score of 329 strokes, 24 strokes behind the first place Hidden Valley Titans, and 22 strokes behind the second place Tunstall Trojans. The rest of the teams from third to eighth (not including Western): Williams Byrd, Cave Spring, Rockbridge County, Rustburg, and Monticello.
Kyle Landis had the best score for Western with a 76, good enough for 13th best in the region. Next was Hunter Weis with an 82 and Tyler Mahone with an 83. There were three players tied for the best score of the tournament with a 76: Sam Comer (Hidden Valley), Drew Lagan (Cave Spring), and Andrew Spiegler (Abingdon).
The loss in the tournament ends the Warriors golf season as they will not be advancing to the state tournament. The seniors leaving are Hunter Weis and Joe Squillace.
