When it comes to movies, trailers play an important part in helping me determine whether it’s worth the hefty $12 fee of watching it in a theater.
Sure, the seats are comfy and the surround sound is mesmerizing, but a lot of the time I leave the theater regretting my purchase when I could’ve been just as comfortable watching a free movie in my bed.
Despite this reasoning, I watched numerous trailers on upcoming movies to see if they could be worth the fee. Below are my top four choices to make your theater experience more worthwhile.

Passengers
In a compilation of sci-fi and action, Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are two passengers on board a spaceship in which they wake up from their “hibernation pods” 90 years before they reach their destination. As a result, they are the only two awake on the spaceship in a frantic search to find the source of their early wake. Over time, love forms between the two of them in the hope of an answer and solution to this mysterious problem.

Allied
In a complicated wartime love story, intelligence officer Max Vatan, played by Brad Pitt, falls in love with French Resistance fighter, Marianne Beausejour, played by Marion Cotillard. Eventually, Marianne becomes Max’s wife and the mother of his son, but is confronted with some devastating news. Max is soon warned that his wife is a German spy, and that he will be responsible for executing her. Will Max be able to forget his love for Marianne in order to protect himself and his son?

Hidden Figures
Set in the late 1950s, this movie works to outline the lives of three African-American women and their work to help launch astronaut John Glenn into space. This movie highlights their efforts to defy society’s ideals by being female, African-American employees at NASA. Their roles as mothers and wives while maintaining their places in the workforce illustrates the force that drives them in a society where female workers were looked down upon.

Nocturnal Animals
Haunting, terrifying, and violent, this movie portrays the story of an art gallery owner who receives a book manuscript from her ex-husband. After receiving the manuscript, the woman believes it is an attempt from her ex-husband to seek her out after the falling out of their marriage. The story follows a confusing yet intriguing plot on how this woman seeks revenge and overcomes her anger.

In a time where multiple movies are hitting the theaters, it’s time to check out these films and see if they’re worth the fee.
