Too Many Service Oriented Clubs at WAHS?

There will be two service-oriented clubs represented at the Club Retreat. The Key Club returns after having a whopping 110 members last year. This year, Interact, which will be headed by Seamore Zhu and sponsored by Mr. Anderson, plays new kid on the block.

Some fear that the presence of two big community service clubs might actually be detrimental to both clubs. If they end up competing for members or hours, the competition between two service clubs might seem ironic.

However, Mrs. Bertrand, faculty sponsor of the Key Club, says the real culprit is the hectic schedules that members of the clubs bring upon themselves. Mrs. Bertrand’s advice: “Don’t try to be in 25 clubs.”

“Even the Honors Societies have become more service-oriented, which is great, but it puts a bigger demand on the members,” she said.

The Club Retreat will occur on Monday, Sept. 16.
