WAHS Golf Takes 3rd at Districts

The Western Albemarle Warriors varsity golf team competed in the Jefferson District golf tournament last week, taking place at the Lake Monticello Golf Course in Fluvanna County. The Warriors, led by all-district senior Dixon Hass, finished third, behind the Albemarle Patriots and the Louisa County Lions.

“[Our performance] was a little lacking,” Hass said. “We didn’t bring the energy we needed. I guess the course didn’t really suit our play style.”

“We all weren’t on top of our game,” junior Cole Weiss said. “We had a tournament the day before; we had done badly in that one as well. Nobody really had time to fix their swings before the next one.”

Although the Warriors were disappointed in their play, they were not alone. Most of the teams in the tournament, including the Patriots and Lions, scored worse than they usually did. In fact, an average score from the Warriors would have almost certainly won them the tournament. One possible factor in the lower quality of play across the lineups may have had to do with the recently aerated greens.

Western will continue their season next week when they play in the Conference 29 tournament.
