The WAHS girls varsity basketball team will be fighting to stay .500 this week. The Warriors are 10-10 this year, now heading into key matchups against Powhatan and Albemarle.

Western had possibly their most dominating performance last week in a 51-44 win over Orange County at home. “We had a lot of steals that led to easy points,” sophomore Shannon Moore commented. Sophomore Mady Starsia added, “We really played together.” However, the next day they fell to Fluvanna 37-41. Free throws was the Warrior’s achilles heel in that game.

The team has changed greatly throughout the season. “I think we’ve gotten a lot better, especially compared to the last few years,” Moore said. They look to end the regular season on a high note, when they play host to the Albemarle Patriots this Friday. In their last meeting, the Patriots came out on top 45-32.
