The Western Albemarle track teams have a long history of excellence. This season looks to keep the legacy polished with a Conference 29 championship from the girls team, and a runner-up finish from the boys side. The boys team is led by The Beast, Gannon Willcutts who finished first in the 800 and 1600, and Jack Ehlenberger who placed third and first in the 1600 and 3200, respectively. The girls squad took home some hardware from the Conference meet led by seniors Chance Masloff and Annie Taylor. The two combined for four first place finishes, backed up by a first place finish from Lydia Garner in the high jump, Madison Masloff in the pole vault, Nichole Heon in the long jump, and a plethora of top five finishes in every event. The teams look ahead to the Region meet, Thursday, at Staunton River High School. A strong showing at regionals could result in qualification for states at Harrisonburg for some of the athletes.
