Warrior Field was vandalized in early November. The offenders spray painted on the 50 yard line with references to Albemarle High School, as well as spray painted sides of the home concession stands and student section signs. The vandalism was cleaned up by the school’s custodial staff within 24 hours, before students returned from their long weekend.

Associate Principal Greg Domecq praised the athletic department for handling the situation quickly, saying “The people who really need to be complemented are Mr. Heon and his athletic staff.” There was no discipline handed out as the perpetrator has not yet been discovered. Domecq also said, “We have no leads to go by. It’s unfortunate that it happened.”

One unique trait about Western’s stadium is that it’s always open to the community, a privilege of unlimited access. There is little to no security at the outdoor track which may encourage more acts like vandalism. Domecq also pointed out that WAHS would like to keep the field open for the people of Crozet, but if acts like vandalism continue there will have to be a change. The Western administration is considering putting up cameras in order to stop these kinds of acts from happening in the future.
