Boys and Girls Tennis Teams Advance
The varsity girls tennis team remains undefeated for the season after wrapping up the Conference 29 tournament with a big win against Spotswood on May 16. The girls have beaten most of the local schools including Albemarle, Monticello, Charlottesville, Fluvanna, Louisa, and Orange. The week of May 19-23, Maggie Roesch and Emily Kochard are competing in the individual conference tournament.
The Western Warriors boys tennis team downed Spotswood on Friday, May 16th for the Conference 29 championship. They won convincingly, 5-1, not needing to play doubles. Tucker Ottaway, Joe Squillace, Scott Grover, Andrew Ern, and Ben Masselli all picked up singles wins for the Warriors. With the team up 4-1, Joe Squillace won his match in the third set to clinch the championship for the Warriors.
Western Albemarle was very efficient during the conference tournament. They defeated Turner Ashby in the first round 5-0, then they beat Monticello 5-0 in the second round, all before defeating Spotswood on the road to get the trophy.
Both the boys and girls teams will advance to the Regional tournament starting Monday, May 26th.
