Michael Redmond is making a return to the 25-26 football season at WAHS. Redmond has been coaching for a total of 17 years, spending most of that time as an assistant coach. He is continuing his journey as head coach this year.
He is also continuing a family legacy: Ed Redmond, his father and a former head coach, retired in 2023. Ed Redmond wasn’t just a father; he was also the person who inspired Michael Redmond to be who he is now. Michael Redmond enjoys coaching for the relationship he grows with his players and students.
Outside of coaching, he loves to grill and cook, and he also teaches the weight-lifting class at WAHS. His main goal this year with his team is to have fun but still try your best. During pre-game talks, he always tells his team, “present physically, mentally, and emotionally,” and “iron sharpens iron” as encouragement when coming onto the field. He has a no-nonsense coaching style, he says, “ as long as you’re trying your best, you can still have fun.”
His favorite bonding activity to do is a team dinner; he enjoys making connections inside and outside of football. He was an active member of track, basketball, baseball, and football, so he carries the mindset of come to play and not mess around. Honoring our new football coach he will bring the team together and support them to get better, as he mentions, “he wants everybody to have fun and work hard.”
