The WAHS Film Festival showcased eight original student films on April 24, ranging from a 40 second movie to a “Cereal Killer” horror film.

Following the 45 minutes of movies, judges Jason Robinson and Bernard Hankins from Light House Studio deliberated and critiqued the films.

“Relatively Normal,” a dark humor movie about a cold-blooded couple of killers, won first place. Sophomores Alex Kingsley and Mattie Weikle directed the winning film.

“It was surprising, since all the movies were so good – some of them just seemed really professional. We were really happy just to be recognized. And since both of us are really into theater and filmmaking, it’s a great step towards our future,” Kingsley said.

Tilden Lexa placed second with his Virginia Film Festival entry, “Mr. X.”  Lexa’s movie was a comedy about a man running late for an appointment.

While delivering the results, the judges created a new award for best music video and awarded it to Emma Ferreira and Elizabeth Cassell for “Last Mile Home.”
