Addi Ritter and Joe Morinelli were both in the top six on the golf team this past year. Both were huge contributions to Western Albemarle’s success this year.
Ritter has been golfing for six years and continues to improve on her game throughout her senior season. Joe Morinelli, a junior on the team, is an experienced golfer that adds a lot to our Western Albemarle golf team. Golfing since the time he was three, the golf course has been a home of his for a long time.
Ritter is a bright personality and a valuable asset to this golf team. She describes the team as a close-knit family where each person challenges each other to improve. Morinelli enjoys the chemistry of the team and how the practices are always fun and entertaining.
Ritter shot two under, 2 strokes better than the number of strokes that the average player should normally shoot on a course, at districts, helping WAHS to a win. Last year, Ritter shot par, the number of strokes an average player should get, in regionals and looks to match that or do better in the coming regional. Morinelli shot 5 under in the district championship which WAHS later went on to win.
Morinelli is most proud of winning states by 15 strokes last year and hopes on building off of that this year. Ritter’s favorite golf team memory was off the course during her sophomore year at the state tournament where she and a friend played a prank on a few teammates, making them think that they needed to evacuate their room.
Ritter wants the players on the team to continue to win but she emphasized that they also need to have fun while they are doing it, or else it is not worth it. Morinelli wants to leave a lasting impact on the younger kids on the team. He hopes that his success with the team here at Western can set a good example for the younger contenders that will be the future of this program.
With the state tournament coming up, the two are looking to bring home another title and end their season off on a high note.
