Ushanka

This is a name you might not be familiar with, but you are certainly familiar with the style, and hopefully by the end of this list it will be a household name. The ushanka is a Russian hat made originally to keep their soldiers warm in the harsh winters of the Motherland. Their armies wore them during the Siege of Stalingrad, and helped them beat the Nazis there, so you could make the case that the ushanka is a reason why we don’t speak German today. They are the most comfortable and warmest of all the hats. They have ear flaps that can be tied above the crown if not needed, but if the temperature dips we recommend keeping them down. The downside to this hat is it can only be worn in certain areas at certain times of the year. Let’s just say there aren’t many people in Florida who own one, but if you’re moving to Wisconsin anytime soon you might want to find yourself a good ushanka.
