Flat Brim

We discovered the reason that the flat brim hat should get its own category despite its similarities to the baseball cap is because of its distinct social connotation and popularity. It is more common among younger generations, and is worn almost always in any other direction other than front-facing. Wearing one signals the more relaxed, laid-back attitude of the person wearing it. It is best for a night out on the town when you aren’t looking for anything fancy or don’t want to put too much effort into picking out a hat that matches the rest of your outfit. It is much more of a statement than the traditional baseball cap, which is used more often in a practical sense- to block out the sun. A person wearing a flat brim has to have an aura of swagger, as if they’re saying, “I’m the coolest person in the room and I know it, but instead of saying it I’m wearing it on my head.” Sunglasses look good with the flat brim, although wearing one out with or without a pair takes a very cool person with a lot of guts.
