The Western Albemarle varsity volleyball team season came to an end on Tuesday November 10th, with a 2-3 loss to Cave Springs. The loss came in the regional tournament semi-final, the winner clinching a spot in the state tournament. Although the elimination was disappointing, the Warriors proved this season that they were the best team in the Jefferson District without question. Going into the Cave Springs matchup, Western was riding a 14 game winning streak.

The Warriors last loss was against the Albemarle Patriots 3-1, marking their fourth loss in six games.  From there on, the Warriors were essentially flawless. When the rematch against the Patriots came around, Western was well prepared. This time they stole a thrilling 3-2 win in hostile territory. “We were always willing to fight for each other and fight to keep going throughout the season,” junior Adriana Bland said. Their next five games were all 3-0 wins. By the time they entered the postseason, they had all the momentum. After clinching a spot in the regional tournament with a 3-1 win over Monticello, they defeated Turner Ashby by the same score to give the Warriors a conference championship. “We played every game knowing it could be our last,” junior Olivia Nichols said of their postseason success, “We kept fighting and we played with a lot of heart.”
