Rowing Team

This year, Western Crew has been very busy. Competing in five Regattas, Western saw team success, as well as individual accomplishments abound. Senior rower Erin Heald took away some medals, winning the women’s 1x final at the Al-Urquia final, and second in the womens 2x heat 2, at the Smokey-Jacobs Regatta. For the boys, senior Owen Coleman took the gold in the mens 1x final at the Smokey-Jacobs, and won the same event in the Darrell-Winslow Regatta.

Of the seniors on the team, the only one that will race at the collegiate level is Ashley Gale, who will be rowing at the University of Virginia.

The weekend of May 24-25, the team is headed for New Jersey to compete for the National Title. They will be taking five boats to the water. Heald, Gale, and Coleman will all be racing in singles. Carter Spradlin, Jake Antman, Cole Bright, and Hayes Shannon will race in a quad. Maggie Vidal and Emmie Thacker will be in a double. A fitting end to an exciting season, the team hopes to row their best, and bring home the gold.
